Pantnagar Airport (PBD)

Pantnagar Airport is located in the Udham Singh Nagar district, in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. This airport is operated by the Airport Authority of India and is located quite close to tourist destinations like Bhimtal (Nainital), Kumaon Hill Station (Nainital), Jim Corbett National Park, Ranikhet, and Almora.

This airport initially had a limited capacity and could only accommodate smaller aircrafts. After upgrading it at a cost of INR 75 crores, turboprop aircrafts are now operational at the airport. In August 2015, the Airport Advisory Committee decided to further develop the airport as a cargo hub with a proposed increase in the current length of the runway.

Flight Information

Air India and Alliance Air operate flights from the Pantnagar Airport. The most popular route is between Delhi and Pantnagar. Flights to other cities such as Gorakhpur, Agra, Gaya, Surat, Kullu Manali, Lucknow, Patna, Pune, and Ahmedabad are also available from this airport.

Terminals

There is a single terminal at the airport, only operating domestic flights. The terminal capacity is 50 for arrivals and 20 for departures. Passengers can check-in at one of the 2 counters that are available at the airport. The 350 square meter terminal also provides one counter for security checks.

Traveling Around

While the local railway station is just 5 kilometers from the airport, the bus stand is about 45 kilometers away. Travelers who need to get to destinations within the city or further away can use private taxis and cab services from the airport to get to their destinations or to reach the railway station or bus stand.

An X-ray baggage scanning facility is provided within the terminal building. Passenger services such as free trolleys, wheelchairs, a telephone security hold area, a lost and found baggage counter, and assistance to physically-challenged and infirm are also available at the airport. Reserved lounges for arrivals and departures are also available at the airport.

Passengers can satisfy their hunger with snacks and beverages that are available at a few small stores within the airport, while they await their flights.

Located between 10 and 12 kilometers from the airport, travelers can stay at hotels like Amber, Gen X Uday, Ark Hotels and Resorts, and Sobti Continental. The city also has some luxury hotels like Ginger and Radisson Blu Hotel.

It is best to visit the city during the months of March and June as the weather is mild and pleasant at this time.

Tourists can visit Haldwani in Nainital district, located about 24 kilometers from Pantnagar. Nainital is one of the most popular hill stations in India and is approximately 54 kilometers from the city. It is known as the Lake District because there are 5 lakes in the region. Another popular tourist destination is the Jim Corbett National Park, which is the oldest national park, since its establishment in 1936. It is about 68 kilometers from Pantnagar. Travelers can also visit the Gobind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology. If you want to get a taste of the local culture, do some shopping for local handicrafts at the Chaiti and Ataria Fairs, which are popular and enthusiastically celebrated in the city.
