Onboard Saudia

One twin-engine Douglas DC-3 Dakota aircraft was all Saudia had in its fleet when it began its operations in 1945. This aircraft was given as a gift to King Abdul Aziz by Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was the U.S. President at the time. The airplane was used for transporting both cargo and passengers between Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dhahran. Scheduled services of Saudia, which was then known as Saudi Arabian Airlines, began by 1947 with flights to Cairo and Damascus. The airline began its intercontinental services in 1967, with flights to London, Frankfurt, and Geneva.
