Also known as the Chikkalthana Airport, Aurangabad Airport is a public airport located in the city of Aurangabad in Maharashtra. During the 1990s, the state government focused on developing tourism in this district.

As a component of the overall development, the airport was upgraded in various phases. During the first phase, the runway was extended and reinforced with a new taxiway, boundary wall construction, and other improvements completed in 2005. In the second phase, the new integrated terminal building and the technical complex was completed in 2008.

The airport was reopened in November 2008 and regular traffic operations at this airport commenced on March 3, 2009.
